We all know it is important to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. If you have cancer, it is even more important that you're getting your daily intake of essential vitamins and minerals. But did you know there are certain foods that can help you beat cancer? Not only can they slow and prevent tumor growth, some have actually been proven to shrink tumors and improve your immune system's ability to beat cancer.
Apricots, peaches, cherries, and berries all contain amygdalin. This is probably one of the best-known cancer fighting agents and is found in over 1200 different natural foods. Berries also contain various phytochemicals that slow tumor growth and block further cancer development. The foods with the highest sources of the cancer-fighting agent amygdalin are in the seeds of non-citrus foods.
Strawberries contain all of the cancer fighting ingredients as other berries, but also contain high amounts of vitamin C. Vitamin C has been shown to help the body's natural defenses in fighting cancer by boosting the immune system and is a powerful antioxidant. It has also been shown to encapsulate tumors and prevent the further spread of cancer. Other foods high in vitamin C include papaya, raw red bell peppers, steamed broccoli, brussel sprouts, oranges, cantaloupe, kiwi, cauliflower, and kale.
Broccoli contains high amounts of vitamin C and is also highly rich in beta carotene. Beta carotene strengthens your body's immunity and has been proven in animal studies to decrease tumor growth, prevent cancer reoccurrence, and extend survival rates and is a powerful antioxidant. It is especially effective in cancers developing from epithelial tissue, which accounts for 90% of all cancer cases. Carrots and zucchini are also high in beta carotene. It can be found in many green and yellow fruits and vegetables and most mixed vegetable juices are rich in beta carotene.
Olive leaves are emerging as another powerful cancer fighting food. It has now been found to contain a very powerful phytochemical that may prove to kill cancer cells as well as lower blood pressure and cholesterol. In fact, it has been found to have five times the antioxidant effects as that of vitamin C. Olive leaves may not be the most tasteful of foods, but it can be combined in tasty recipe dishes or even mashed and made into a tea or thick green drink.
Barley and wheat grass are cereal grasses that are powerful cancer fighters. They are rich in chlorophyll, which has great health promoting effects. They are also known to have an anticarcinogenic effect and prevent further tumor growth. They contain high amounts of phytonutrients and have a highly antioxidant effect. Dried wheat grass has more vitamins and nutrients in a small spoonful than many servings of fruits and vegetables and is often called a green super food. Did you know that wheat grass even contains many more times the amount of vitamin C than oranges?
There are many foods that will help you in your cancer fight. You should combine as many cancer-fighting foods as possible by creating your own cancer fighting diet for the best results. Cancer fighting foods have been proven to reduce the growth and spread of cancers and prevent reoccurrences. They will also

Power over Cancer
The diagnosis of CANCER is enough to knock your feet right out from under you. There are warnings on everything as to what causes cancer, but do they really know what all causes cancer? The only thing for sure is how you handle yourself past the diagnosis, can make all the difference in your outcome through your therapy.
I have worked in a cancer treatment center for over 28 years and have seen many patients beat the odds after being given a horrible prognosis. The reason these people have beat the odds is mostly due to the fact that they were not going to accept that prognosis and they were going to prove the doctors wrong.
One gentleman was given 6 months to live due to his newly found brain tumor. When given this news, his wife left him, his world was crashing in and all it did was fuel his fire. He was the most inspiring man I have ever met. He went through his therapy, he was able to drive again, go skiing, boating, whatever it was that made him enjoy life. He lived 5 1/2 years past his diagnosis and he enjoyed every minute of his life. That was the first incidence that made me realize what power each of us possess if we really put our mind to something.
There have been many, many patients since then that have shared the same incredible attitude and have beat the odds when faced with an unpleasant diagnosis. You also have to take advantage of support groups with positive people to surround you, as in Gilda's Club. The American Cancer Society offers a program called, Look Good, Feel Better. This is a program offered for ladies afflicted with some type of cancer. They are given a cosmetic bag with approximately $300.00 worth of make-up, which is donated by all of the cosmetic companies across America. This is a 2 hour program which emphasizes the importance of how much better you will feel if you look better. This is a very important part of your therapy and this will help your attitude stay up during your battle.
Always remember, the key ingredient to your positive outcome is a positive attitude, your faith in God, positive family and friends and doctors that will stand in your corner and believe in miracles. There are many miracles walking this earth that were told they would not be. They are here because they refused to believe the cancer was going to kill them and found doctors that were willing to help them fight to live. Always believe in the power of the mind, body and God, the rest will follow.
I am a secretary in a cancer center and have seen many miracles in my 28 1/2 years. I truly believe there is a huge difference in your outcome depending on how you react to the diagnosis. I have learned more valuable lessons from my many patients over the years and I just want to share with other cancer patients that they do play a very valuable role in their outcome. If I can make a difference in one person's attitude, than it was well worth writing this article. Please don't use the word terminal when referring to a friend or family member's diagnosis, we are all terminal and it gives the diagnosis a negative connotation and nobody needs any negativity added to the diagnosis of Cancer. Please be positive for your family and friends.

Selecting the Best Doctor For Your Cancer
Cancer doctors have worked extremely hard to get where they are in the medical world. They have fought their way through grueling years at medical school. They have specialized in a field that has a high mortality rate, and that can be very depressing. However that is no excuse to be pessimistic, because the attitude of your oncologist affects your care, your mood and ultimately your prognosis.
The attitude of the medical profession is important even as early as the day that you are diagnosed with cancer. Whether or not, a patient survives cancer has something to do with their own mindset and their belief that it is not a death sentence, but a disease that can be cured. However your doctors' attitude can shape how you deal with finding a cure.
If the doctor is pessimistic about the prognosis then the patient does not believe that their life is worth fighting for, conversely if the doctor is too optimistic then the patient is not motivated to dig deep within themselves to search for the reserves that they will need to combat cancer. Unfortunately there are no second chances on attitude with cancer; a false belief that a doctor will cure you is not the most helpful way to start treatment. This is because there is no one treatment for cancer and support groups can be extremely beneficial.
As a cancer patient you have to be part of a team, and all the members of that team have to be team players, there is no room for egoists within that team. Whilst it is a team not all the members should be equal it is your life and you should be the manager of your team. However as in life to be an effective manager you have to be in possession of the facts. Without those facts that you must root out and decide what is important to your well being.
It is not a time to face life with your head in the sand because that may be a sure way of guaranteeing that you will shortly be looking death in the face. Looking death in the face is itself frightening without the burden of a pessimistic oncologist. It takes a great deal of effort, time and guts to be a positive oncologist because they are potentially losing more patients than they save.
However a pessimistic oncologist is in a win-win situation and they are using your treatment as the yardstick. For instance if they are correct and you die, their prognosis was correct, they have not raised your hopes. However if you beat cancer, then they have gone from zero to hero because they have cured you. Which means in effect that whatever they do to treat you they cannot lose?
Conversely the positive oncologist has to do much more work; he has to be sensitive to your needs, your lifestyle and what you want from the treatment. He has to search out the best treatment to meet your needs. That does not mean that you will necessarily survive your cancer, but one thing for sure is the fact that if you think that you are going to die then you are more likely to bring about that self fulfilling prognosis and a good doctor will recognize that fact. Therefore seek out and find an oncologist that believes that you can be treated and cured.
As isolated as you may feel right now, you are not alone. Cancer diagnosis is no longer the end of the story.
